Step 4: Sustain

Sustain

EMBEDDING LASTING CHANGE

The final stage of our approach, Sustain, ensures that the changes made during live-coaching are not only effective but also enduring. This stage is about embedding the new behaviors, mindset, and tools into the team leader’s daily routine so they become second nature.

It’s not enough to achieve success; we want to ensure that success continues long after our coaching sessions end.

Daily Interactions: Embedding New Behaviors

Sustaining change starts with making new behaviors and mindsets part of the daily routine. We work with team leaders to ensure that:

  • Daily interactions consistently reinforce the desired leadership behaviors, such as proactive problem-solving and clear communication.
  • Performance metrics are not just visible but actively used as part of operational discussions.

By integrating these elements into every shift, team leaders naturally adopt and sustain the improvements we’ve worked on together.

Performance Visibility: Driving Accountability

A key aspect of sustaining change is ensuring that performance remains highly visible. Together, we:

  • Create or refine visual performance boards that connect team-level results to broader organizational goals.
  • Embed these boards into daily operational meetings to drive accountability and maintain focus on targets.

This approach ensures that everyone stays aligned and performance gaps are identified and addressed quickly.

Leader Standard Work: Providing Structure

A robust Leader Standard Work framework is essential for maintaining progress. We help team leaders establish a clear structure for their daily and weekly schedules, ensuring they focus on the tasks that drive performance. This includes:

  • Routine activities like shop floor rounds and performance meetings.
  • Time for coaching and empowering their teams.
  • Clear expectations for daily and weekly deliverables.

This framework acts as a guide, keeping team leaders on track while allowing flexibility for unexpected challenges.

Scaling Back Support: Encouraging Independence

As the new behaviors and structures take hold, we gradually reduce the frequency of our visits. However, we don’t step away completely—we remain available to:

  • Return periodically to provide additional coaching or address new challenges.
  • Conduct check-ins to ensure that standards are maintained and progress remains on track.

This ongoing support, even at a reduced level, ensures that the improvements we’ve made are not only sustained but continue to evolve with the team’s needs.

Why Sustain Matters

The Sustain stage is where change becomes part of the culture. By embedding new ways of working into daily operations and ensuring that leaders have the tools and confidence they need, we set the foundation for long-term success. It’s not just about maintaining today’s performance—it’s about creating a framework for continuous improvement that grows with your organization.
